Regional Offices

There are five Regional Offices set up by AARDO, three in Africa and two in Asia. The main objectives of establishing the Regional Offices, as decided by the 3rd General Session of AARDO Conference held at Seoul, R O Korea during April 1968 endorsing the decision of the Seventh Session of the Executive Committee of AARDO (March 1967), are as under:

i)     Promotion of the interest of AARDO in the member countries of the region and other countries of the region;

ii)     Enrolment of new members of AARDO from among those countries of the region which have not yet joined;

iii)     Assisting in the execution of approved work programmes including organisation of seminars, workshops and conferences in the countries of the region;

iv)     Identifying the problem areas in the countries of the region and submitting recommendations to the Headquarters of AARDO for implementation of projects/conducting studies in the countries of the region;

v)     Representing AARDO at national and international meetings, seminars, conferences and workshops in the home country or the neighbouring countries as may be directed by the headquarters; and

vi)     Functioning as data bank for information required by headquarters and disseminating information regarding AARDO’s activities.

As far as maintenance of the regional offices is concerned, host countries’ liabilities are to provide adequate office space and its maintenance to enable the Honorary Regional Representative to carry out his/her responsibilities. AARDO Headquarters provides a lump-sum amount (one time payment) not exceeding US $11,000 on initial set up of the regional office, pays an annual honorarium of US $2,000 to the Regional Representative, and an annual maintenance grant of US $1,000 to the Regional Office. Realising the importance of the Regional Offices for promoting the cause of AARDO in the respective regions, budgetary provisions have been made for their strengthening.
