Delegations Visited AARDO Secretariat

i) Ministry of Business, Enterprises and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Mauritius

His Excellency Mr. Soomilduth Bholah, Minister of Business, Enterprises and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Mauritius paid a visit to the AARDO Secretariat on 21st January 2016 for discussions with the Secretary General on matters of mutual interest. Mr. V.A. Putchay, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry and Mrs V. Segobin-Maulloo, First Secretary, Mauritius High Commission, New Delhi accompanied the Hon'ble Minister on the visit. The discussions centered around exploring ways and means for forging possible collaboration between the esteemed Ministry and AARDO. Some of the areas the Hon'ble Minister mentioned for possible collaboration with and support from AARDO included cooperatives other than sugarcane, dairy development and small and medium enterprises.

ii) D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Istanbul

His Excellency Dr. Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, Secretary General, D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Istanbul, Turkey called on the Secretary General on 08 January 2016 for discussions on matters of mutual interest, including exploring the possibility of organising some joint activities, in the light of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both the Organizations on 6 December 2013. Mr. Kazi Ziaul Hasan, Director (Economy, Implementation and External Relations), D-8 accompanied the Secretary General on the visit. The Assistant Secretary General, AARDO and senior officers from the Secretariat were present during the meeting. A brief presentation on the programmes and activities of AARDO was made for the kind information of the delegation. During the discussions, AARDO and D-8 decided to explore the possibilities for the future collaboration for the benefit of their member countries.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in 1997 and headquartered at Istanbul, Turkey, is an intergovernmental Organization for developing economic cooperation among the member countries, namely, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.

iii) El Gadarif State, Sudan

A high level delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Mirghani Saleh Sayed Ahmed Zeiada, the Hon'ble Governor of the El Gadarif State, Republic of the Sudan paid a visit to the AARDO Secretariat on 18th March 2016 for discussions with H.E. the Secretary General on El Gadarif State's future cooperation with AARDO. H.E. Mr. Abdalla Suliman Abdalla Suliman, Minister of Agriculture & Forestry, and H.E. Mr. Omer Mohamed Nour Osman Elhassan, Minister of Finance & Economy, El Gadarif State, accompanied the Hon'ble Governor on the visit. His Excellency Dr. Hassan E. El Talib, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to India was also present in the meeting. Two officials, one each from the office of the Hon'ble Governor and the Embassy of Sudan were also part of the delegation. A warm welcome was extended to the delegation.

The visiting delegation apprised the Secretary General and other AARDO officials of the economy of the El Gadarif State, status ofmechanized farming, agricultural production, organizational structure, available infrastructure, problems encountered by the State, etc. H.E. the Secretary General made a presentation on AARDO and its activities for the kind information of the delegation.The discussions covered a wide range of subjects like establishment of AARDO's model village in the State, transfer of technology to the State, capacity building at grass roots, role of small and medium industries in State's economy, development of fishery sector, migration from rural to urban areas, deputation of experts to the State, signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of El Gadarif and AARDO, etc.
