Visits of the Secretary General & Assistant Secretary General
The Secretary General paid a visit to Bangladesh on 3-6 October 2016 to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for organising the 68th Session of the Executive Committee of AARDO in Dhaka at the kind invitation of the esteemed Government of Bangladesh. While in Bangladesh, he paid courtesy calls on H.E. the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives, Government of Bangladesh and H.E. the State Minister and discussed with them matters of common concerns. He also called on the Hon'ble Secretary in the esteemed Ministry and signed the MoU for organising the Executive Committee meeting in Dhaka on 19-21 January 2017.
The Secretary General utilized his presence in Bangladesh to pay a visit to the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogra and had detailed discussions with the Director General and senior officials on the modalities for organising a new training programme on rural development and poverty alleviation at the esteemed Academy for the benefit of AARDO member countries. He also called on the Director General, Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) and discussed matters of mutual interest, including organisation of a joint Round Table on “Agricultural Insurance – A Climate Change Adaptation Tool in the African, Asian and Pacific Regions” for the benefit of member countries of AARDO and CIRDAP.
The Secretary General again visited Dhaka to attend the 68th Session of the Executive Committee held there on 19-21 January 2017.
At the kind invitation of the Director General, Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Comilla, Bangladesh, the Secretary General graced the Inaugural Session of the International Training Workshop on “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals: Financial Inclusion and Rural Transformation” held at BARD on 27 February 2017. While in Comilla, the Secretary General discussed matters of mutual interest with the Director General, BARD and interacted with the faculty members and the participants.
At the kind invitation of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO), Japan, the Secretary General paid a visit to Malaysia to attend, as an Observer, the 57th Workshop Meeting of Heads of National Productivity Organizations (NPOs) (WSM), held in Kuala Lumpur during 19-21 October 2016,. While in Malaysia, he called on the newly elected Secretary General, of APO and briefed him about AARDO and its activities. The Secretary General APO appreciated the activities of AARDO. The Secretary General also had discussions with the participants from APO, CIRDAP and delegates from India and Sri Lanka and explored the possibility of organising some collaborative activities.
The Secretary General again paid a visit to Malaysia to attend the first ever Round Table on “Agricultural Insurance - A Climate Change Adaptation Tool in African, Asian and Pacific Regions” held in Selangor on 06-10 February 2017. The event was organised by AARDO in collaboration with CIRDAP and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI).
At the kind invitation of the Thai National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (THAICID), Thailand, the Secretary General visited Thailand to attend the 2nd World Irrigation Forum on “Water Management in Changing World: Role of Irrigation for Sustainable Food Production” and the 67th International Executive Council Meeting, held at Chiang Mai on 6-12 November 2016. The Secretary General presented a Keynote Paper on “AARDO's Role in Sustainable Use of Water Resources and Management” at the Inaugural Function of the Forum. He also co-chaired a side event on “Agriculture Water Management for Sustainable Rural Development”, jointly organized by AARDO and ICID on 07 November 2016.
At the kind invitation of H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, & President designate of COP22/CMP12, Marrakesh, the Secretary General attended the 22nd Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Marrakesh on 7-18 November 2016.
The Secretary General called on Mr. Atal Dulloo, IAS, Joint Secretary (IC) to the Government of India, Ministry of Rural Development, New Delhi on 30 November 2016 and signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the organisation of capacity building programmes in India for the AARDO sponsored candidates from its member countries.
At the kind invitation of the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), New Delhi, the Secretary General attended a meeting of 15 members' high level delegation from 5 African countries on 22 January 2017 and briefed the delegations about AARDO and its activities. The meeting was organised by ICFA in collaboration with the Michigan State University, United States of America.
The Secretary General, AARDO paid a visit to Islamabad, Pakistan on 7-9 December 2016 to inaugurate the International Workshop-cum-training programme on “Irrigation System and Water Management”, jointly organised by AARDO and AHK National Centre for Rural Development (AHK NCRD), Establishment Division, Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He utilized his presence in Islamabad to hold a meeting with the Director General, AHK NCRD, and Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for South and Central Asia and discussed matters of mutual interest, including exploring the possibility of organisation of a new programme at the National Centre.
The Secretary General met with the Acting Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and explored the possibility of organising a training programme on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management at AHK NCRD. He also paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Secretary, Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan and discussed matters of mutual collaboration. He also had a meeting with senior officers of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad and discussed modalities for the effective operationalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between AARDO and the Institute.
The Secretary General visited Iraq during 19-22 December 2016 to personally apprise H.E. the Minister of Agriculture, Government of Iraq and senior officials of the esteemed Ministry of the current activities of the Organization and to discuss how the programmes of AARDO could be useful to the esteemed Government. Besides meeting the Hon'ble Minister, the Secretary General paid courtesy calls on two Deputy Ministers in the esteemed Ministry, Hon'ble Minister of Water Resources and the Deputy of Ministry for Environment Affairs, and had fruitful discussions with them on matters of common concern. He also visited Agricultural Research Centre, Abu Gharib, State Board for Seed Testing and Certification and the Animal Health, Veterinary State Commission to observe their contribution in agricultural development.
On his way back to New Delhi from Iraq, the Secretary General visited Jordan to meet the new Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for the Middle East to discuss the activities of the regional office. He called on the senior officials of the esteemed Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Government of Jordan and discussed issues of common interests.
At the invitation of the President of the Agricultural Engineers Association of Jordan, the Secretary General visited the Association and had discussions with the President and Board Members on matters related to agricultural development. While in Jordan, he called on the Hon'ble President, Jordan University for Science and Technology (JUST) and held discussions on ways of possible collaboration between AARDO and JUST.
At the kind invitation of the President, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Rome, Italy, the Secretary General paid a visit to Rome to attend the Fortieth Session of the IFAD Governing Council, held there on 14-15 February 2017.
Visits of the Assistant Secretary General
Republic of China (TAIWAN)
The Assistant Secretary General paid a visit to Republic of China to attend the international Workshop on “Fishing Technology and Industry Development” organised by AARDO in collaboration with the esteemed Council of Agriculture at Taiwan Fisheries Research Institute (TFRI) during 27 November - 03 December 2016. Besides sharing his experiences with the participants on the subject, he had fruitful dialogues with the concerned authorities of the esteemed Government of the Republic of China. He paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and discussed issues of common interest. He also had a discussion with the Director General, Department of International Affairs, Council of Agriculture on enhancing collaboration between AARDO and Republic of China.
The Assistant Secretary General visited Dhaka, Bangladesh to attend the 68th Session of the Executive Committee held there on 19-21 Jan 2017.
