The Delegations Visited AARDO Secretariat

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

A South South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) delegation from IFAD, Rome, comprising Ms. Rasha Omar, Country Representative, New Delhi; and three senior officials from Global Engagement, Knowledge and Strategy Division (GKS), Rome, paid a visit to the AARDO Secretariat on 17 November 2016 to hold discussions with the Secretary General on matters of common interest, including exploring potential areas of collaboration between the two Organizations. The Secretary General made a presentation on AARDO, history of its establishment, its vision, mission, areas of concern, organizational structure, technical activities, collaboration with international and regional organizations, membership, etc., for kind information of the visiting delegation. The delegation members informed the Secretary General that SSTC is increasingly becoming important to IFAD member countries and, therefore, the Fund has formulated a new approach to it. IFAD's new approach is on two domains, namely, (i) technical cooperation and (ii) investment promotion. After a long discussion, IFAD and AARDO decided to review their old partnership.

The Far East Regional Office (FERO) of AARDO, Republic of Korea

A delegation headed by Mr. Yoo, Byung-Rin, Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for the Far East Regional Office (FERO), Republic of Korea, called on the Secretary General on 27 November 2016 for discussions on matters of common concerns. Mr. Jeon, Jong-Cheol, Manager and Ms. Kristy (Sung-hee) Seo, Assistant Administrative Officer in the Regional Office, accompanied Mr. Yoo, Byung-Rin on the visit. During discussions, the Secretary General sought assistance from KOICA and Korea's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to enable AARDO to meet the aspiration of its member countries. The Honorary Regional Representative expressed the hope that with the commencement of the Rural Community - International Education Exchange Centre (RC-IEEC) in Republic of Korea in 2017, there would be a good opportunity for participating AARDO member countries to derive benefits from Korean experience and expertise in the field of rural development.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Republic of Korea

A delegation from KOICA, Republic of Korea, headed by Ms. WON, Jihye, Director, Capacity Development Programme Team, called on the Secretary General on 02 December 2016 to hold discussions on matters of common interest, including revisiting and renewing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Sustainable Agricultural Development (SAD) Training Programme. Apart from senior officials from KOICA, the delegation also comprised officials from the Regional Office of AARDO for the Far East, Republic of Korea and experts from the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and Seoul National University. The delegation was in New Delhi in connection with the Follow-up Seminar on “AARDO-KOICA Joint Training Programme on Sustainable Agricultural Development (SAD)”, jointly organised by KOICA and AARDO from 28 November to 1st December 2016.

The Secretary General made a presentation encompassing AARDO's goal, vision, mission, areas of concern, accomplishments made, core competencies, entire process of formulating the triennial work programme, membership, collaboration with international and regional organizations digitalization of documents, etc. for kind information of the KOICA delegation.

The Director, Capacity Development Programme Team, KOICA, briefed the Secretary General about KOICA and its various activities. The discussions mainly focused on renewing the MoU for organisation of the SAD training programme in Republic of Korea and further improving its contents.

Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment and Ministry of Arts and Culture, Government of the Republic of Mauritius

His Excellency Mr. P. Roopun, Minister of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment and Minister of Arts and Culture, Government of the Republic of Mauritius called on the Secretary General on 12 January 2017 for discussions on matters of mutual interest. H.E. Mr. Jagdishwar Goburdhun, GOSK, High Commissioner for the Republic of Mauritius to India and Ms. V. Segobin-Maulloo, First Secretary from the Mauritius High Commission, New Delhi, accompanied the Hon'ble Minister on the visit. The Hon'ble Minister apprised the Secretary General of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the Republic of Mauritius and the formulation and implementation of a “Marshall Plan” to eradicate extreme poverty. The Secretary General informed the visiting delegation about the technical and organizational activities of AARDO and support extended by AARDO to the esteemed Government of Mauritius.

Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Mauritius

A high level delegation led by H.E. Mr. Soomilduth Bholah, Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Mauritius called on the Secretary General on 16 January 2017 for discussions on matters of mutual interest. H.E. Mr. Jagdishwar Goburdhun, GOSK, High Commissioner for Mauritius to India; Mr. D. Gaoneadry, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives; and Mr. G. Seechurn, Director of the National Institute for Cooperative Entrepreneurship, Mauritius, accompanied the Hon'ble Minister on the visit. The discussions primarily focused on exploring ways and means for forging possible collaboration between the esteemed Ministry and AARDO, including deputation of experts and development project. During this occasion, a ceremonial cheque of US $40000 pertaining to AARDO-assisted Development Project in Mauritius on "Development of Diary Cooperative Logistics System" was handed over the Hon'ble Minister.

Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Government of the Syrian Arab Republic

A high level delegation led by H.E. Mr. Ahmad Fateh Al Qaderi, Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Syrian Arab Republic called on the Secretary General on 21st February 2017 for discussions on matters of mutual interest. Mr. Haitham Haidar, Director, Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and Mr. Wael Deirki, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of Syria, New Delhi accompanied the Hon'ble Minister on the visit. During discussions, the Hon'ble Minister sought AARDO's assistance to develop aqua-culture and sericulture sectors for the economic development of Syria. The Secretary General assured the Hon'ble Minister of all assistance from AARDO to promote these sectors in the country. The Hon'ble Minister was in New Delhi at the invitation of AARDO to participate in the International Conference on “Technological Advancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development” (TASARD-India, 2017) held in New Delhi on 20-23 February 2017.

A high level delegation headed by H.E. Mr. Sufian A.S. Sultan, Minister of Agriculture, State of Palestine called on the Secretary General on 21st February 2017 for discussions on matters of mutual interest. H.E. Mr. Adnan M. Abu Alhaijaa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to India, and Mr. Nasser R.H. Jaghoub, Head, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Palestine, accompanied the Hon'ble Minister on the visit. The discussions covered a wide range of issue of common interest. The Hon'ble Minister was in New Delhi at the invitation of AARDO to participate in the International Conference on “Technological Advancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development” (TASARD-India, 2017) held in New Delhi on 20-23 February 2017.
