REGIONAL OFFICES
The following activities were carried out by the Regional Offices of AARDO

i) Regional Office for the Far East, Seoul (FERO), Republic of Korea

a) Attended the 18th General Session of AARDO Conference and the 65th & 66th Sessions of the Executive Committees held in the Republic of Mauritius during 2-10 April 2015 as an Observer;

b) Coordinated with KOICA and AARDO Secretariat to hold the training programme on “Sustainable Agriculture Development” at Kyungbook National University during 27 July - 17 August 2015;

c) Liaised with AARDO Secretariat to invite experts from member countries to the 14th Asia Pacific Agricultural Policy Forum, held in Seoul, Korea during 31 August - 1 September 2015;

d) Coordinated with Food and Agriculture Officials Training Institute (FATI), Republic of Korea and AARDO Secretariat to hold the study visit-cum-training programme on “Capacity Building on Agricultural and Rural Development Policies” organized at FATI during 8-17 September 2015.

e) Identified and supported Korean candidates to participate in the programmes of AARDO;

f) Approached the esteemed Governments of Cambodia and Laos on their possible membership in AARDO;

g) Held the Coordination Committee Meeting for the Far East region to discuss the strengthening of collaboration within the region, and agreed to launch FERO E-newsletter; and

h) Published and circulated the first issue of FERO E-Newsletter to share activities/experiences of FERO.

ii) Regional Office for the Middle East (MERO), Amman, Jordan

a) Facilitated the participation of participants from Jordan in different HRD activities organised by AARDO in different member countries;

b) Coordinated with Agricultural Risk Management Fund, Amman regarding experts and data bank on the subject; and

c) Visited and made on-ground inspection of project site of Development Pilot Project on “Utilizing of Agricultural Stubbles in the Provision of Alternative Feeds for Animal”.

iii) Regional Office for South and Central Asia, Islamabad, Pakistan

a) Liaised to conduct the international workshop-cum-training programme on “Irrigation System and Water Management” to be held at the National Centre for Rural Development (NCRD), Islamabad, during 3-12 November 2015;

b) Met with Chairman, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for the conduct of Regional Workshop on “Disaster Management and Natural Calamities” to be held during February 206;

c) Met with the Executive Director, Afghanistan Institute of Rural Development (AIRD) and discussed in details issues relating to its joining AARDO as an Associate Member.

d) Liaised with COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad for mutual cooperation and signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AARDO and CIIT.

iv) Regional Office for the North and Eastern Africa, Cairo, Egypt

a) Liaised with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, Government of Egypt on technical activities of AARDO;

b) Facilitated the participation of the Egyptian nominees in different AARDO’s programmes;

c) Liaised with the Egyptian International Centre for Agriculture (EICA), Cairo, in the organisation of training programmes at the Centre;

d) Held discussions with the Secretary General on strengthening the activities of the Regional Office for North and Eastern Africa, Cairo; and

e) Liaised and facilitated the signing of MoU between AARDO and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).

v) Regional Office for West Africa, Accra, Ghana

a) Attended the 18th General Session of AARDO Conference, held in the Republic of Mauritius on 6-9 April 2015;

b) Attended the 65th and 66th sessions of the Executive Committee, held in the Republic of Mauritius on 2-4 April 2015 and 09 April 2015, respectively;

c) Carried out monitoring of on-going development pilot project;

d) Liaised with the Forestry Research Institute of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of Ghana to prepare and submit research proposal on the topic "The Impact of Climate Change on Household Food Security and Livelihood" to AARDO for financial support;

e) Facilitated the preparation and submission of project proposal on "Integrated Agricultural Development Project" by the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) for financing by the Republic of Korea; and

f) Liaised with the Government of Ghana in sponsoring nominees from Ghana for different AARDO’s programmes.

vi) Regional Office for Southern Africa, Lusaka, Zambia

a) Attended the 18th General Session of AARDO Conference, held in the Republic of Mauritius on 6-9 April 2015;

b) Attended the 65th Session of the Executive Committee, held in the Republic of Mauritius on 2-4 April 2015;

c) Coordinated with the concerned agencies in the Government of Zambia like the Ministry of Youth and Sport, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), etc., for the visit of the Secretary General, AARDO on 18th May 2015;

d) Held discussions with the Secretary General on strengthening of the Regional Office;

e) Liaised with the concerned authorities in the Government of Zambia and the Mulungushi University on the organization of International Workshop-Cum-Training Programme on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation”, held at Mulungushi University, Kabwe, Zambia from 18-22 May 2015; and

f) Facilitated the identification of the Zambian candidates and their participation in various activities organized under the sponsorship of AARDO.

New Regional Representative of AARDO for the North and Eastern Africa, Cairo, Egypt

H.E. the Minister of Social Solidarity, Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Hon’ble Vice- President of AARDO from Africa recommended Mr. Mohamed Hassan Rashwan, Director General, General Directorate of Technical Administration, Ministry of Social Solidarity as the Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for North and Eastern Africa, Cairo to replace Ms. Aziza Youssef Mustafa, who was formally retired from the service. Considering Mr. Rashwan’s qualifications, vast and diverse experience and long association with the Organization, the Secretary General has appointed him as the Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for North and Eastern Africa with effect from 1st June 2015.

New Regional Representative of AARDO for Western Africa, Accra, Ghana

On the recommendation of the esteemed Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Government of the Republic of Ghana, the Secretary General has appointed Mr. Patrick Affum Asumadu, Principal Development Planning Officer in the Ministry as the new Honorary Regional Representative of AARDO for West Africa with effect from 1st September 2015. Mr. Patrick Affum Asumadu has replaced Mr. Ransford Agyepong Dankyira who has formally retired from the service.
