COLLABORATION WITH INTERNATIONAL/NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
During the period under review, AARDO signed the Memorandam of Understanding with the following organization :

International Sericultural Commission (ISC), Bengaluru, India

Following the signing of the MoU between AARDO and the International Sericultural Commission (ISC), Bengaluru on 1st September 2015 for carrying out collaborative activities and organising training programmes, both the organizations jointly organised an International Workshop-cum-Exposure Visit on “Potential of Sericulture and Silk Industry for Employment and Income Generation in AARDO Member Countries” in Mysore on 11-16 April 2016. The Programme was attended by 18 participants from 12 countries, namely, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Palestine, Republic of China (Taiwan), Sudan, Turkey, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.

International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), New Delhi, India

Subsequent to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by AARDO and International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), New Delhi on 9 December 2015 for organising collaborative activities, the ICID invited the Secretary General to the 4th African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage (ARCID) on “Agricultural Land and Water Management for Sustainability under Climate Variability”, organised by the Egyptian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (ENCID), in Aswan City from 26 to 28 April 2016. The Secretary General delivered address during the Inaugural Session and presented Keynote Speech on “Water Management and Sustainable Development in the Context of Africa”. While in Aswan, he called on the Hon’ble President of ICID and also Chairman, ENCID and discussed matters of mutual interest.

D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation (D-8), Istanbul and the Agricultural and Rural Development Support Institution (ARDSI), Turkey

During his visit to Trabzon, Turkey on 13-14 April 2016 to attend a workshop on “Exchange of Information on Rural Tourism Policies between D-8 Countries and ARDSI”, the Assistant Secretary General explored the possibility of associate membership of ARDSI, Turkey in AARDO. He also explored the possibility of organising some programme in collaboration with D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation, Istanbul D-8 and ARDSI

Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Dhaka, Bangladesh

During his visit to Malaysia, to attend the CIRDAP’s 31st Technical Committee Meeting (TC-31) and the Workshop on “International Knowledge Exchange on Rural Development: Best Practices of Malaysian Experiences”, held in Kuala Lumpur during 22-28 May 2016, the Secretary General utilized his presence in Malaysia to hold discussions with the Director General, CIRDAP on matters of mutual interest. AARDO has been designated as a member of CIRDAP Technical Committee. The Secretary General also met the Chief Executive Officer, International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet), Malaysia and explored the possibility of organising some joint activities in the future. He interacted with many of the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of CIRDAP Linked Institutions (CLI) as well as observers and discussed with them matters of mutual interest. He also met representatives of some of the prospective member countries of AARDO from Asia and apprised them of the objectives, mandate and activities of AARDO and urged them to impress upon their respective governments to join AARDO.

Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow, India

While in Malaysia to attend CIRDAP meetings, the Secretary General held discussions with the Hon’ble Director, BIRD, Lucknow, to explore the possibility of organising some AARDO-BIRD collaborative activities at BIRD. Subsequent to the meeting, the Director, BIRD paid a visit to the AARDO Secretariat and held fruitful discussions on organising some activity at his Institute for the benefit of AARDO member countries.

National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi, India

The Secretary General had held discussions with the Hon’ble Chairman and Managing Director, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi during the course of a function at the Jamia Millia University on 5 May 2016. The Chairman and Managing Director apprised the Secretary General of the activities of NRDC and invited him to the Corporation. The NRDC activities include IPR and Technology Transfers services in areas such as agro & food processing, bio-technology, energy; skill development programmes, etc. Since many activities of both the organizations are similar, there is a considerable scope of forging collaboration between them. The Secretary General has accepted the kind invitation and will visit the Corporation on a mutual convenient date to identify some areas of possible collaboration.

AARDO Signs MOU With ICFA, New Delhi, India

AARDO and ICFA, New Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the AARDO Secretariat on 1st July 2016 for carrying out collaborative activities. The MoU was signed by the Secretary General on behalf of AARDO and Mr. Alok Sinha, Director General on behalf of ICFA. During the signing ceremony, five senior officials from ICFA and the Assistant Secretary General and all Division Heads from AARDO were present. The MoU envisages AARDO and ICFA working together in enhancing cooperation in the fields of rural development, agriculture and food; implementing programmes on food security, environmental sustainability and accelerating the growth in farm productivity, agri-business, etc., through ensuring continuous and sustainable process of sharing of lessons, ideas and experiences and facilitating collaboration in capacity building, training and skills development and building economic linkages.

ICFA, established in 2015 in New Delhi, is a national level apex Non-Government Company with a mandate for policy research and advocacy, trade, technology and investments facilitation in food and agriculture sector towards empowering the farmers and addressing the issues of agricultural development, global food security and environmental sustainability.

At the kind invitation of ICFA, the Secretary General attended the 9th Agricultural Leadership Summit 2016 on “Growing Farmer Income Sustainably”, organised by ICFA in New Delhi on 8 - 9 September 2016. He made a presentation and chaired a business session on “World Vision of African Agriculture” and “Global Partnerships for Future Agriculture”. He also addressed the Summit during the inaugural function on 8 September 2016.
