Delegations Visited AARDO Secretariat

i) Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Government of the Republic of Namibia

A high level delegation, headed by Hon’ble Ms. Silvia Gonaone Makgone, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, Government of the Republic of Namibia, paid a visit to AARDO Secretariat, on 10 September 2016, to have discussions with the Secretary General on matters of mutual interest and how Namibia can derive benefits from AARDO’s activities on becoming its distinguished member. The delegation also comprised Hon’ble Chairmen of three regional councils in Namibia. H.E. Mr. Pius Dunaiski, High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to India accompanied the delegation on the visit. The Secretary General welcomed Namibia on becoming a distinguished member of AARDO and explained the various benefits it could derive from its membership. At the end of the meeting, on behalf of AARDO, the Secretary General presented a memento to the Hon’ble Deputy Minister to commemorate the visit.

ii) Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Dhaka, Bangladesh

Mr. Tevita G. Boseiwaqa Taginavulau, Director General, Centre on Integrated Rural Development For Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), Dhaka, Bangladesh, paid a courtesy call on the Secretary General, on 23 August 2016, to hold discussions on matters of mutual interest. Dr. (Ms.) Vasanthi Rajendran, Director (Information & Communication Division) and Director (Training) accompanied the Director General on the visit. During the discussions, both the organizations, among othe matters, decided to explore the possibilities of organising an international workshop/Round Table on Crop Insurance for the benefit of their member countries.

iii) Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories, New Delhi, India

A two-member delegation comprising of Mr. Hamid Ahmed, Director, (Wakf) Laboratories, New Delhi and Mr. Tauhid Alam, Director (Project), Education Research and Development (ERD) Foundation, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya, called on the Secretary General on 03 June 2016 for discussions on possible collaboration between the Hamdard and AARDO. The delegation briefed the Secretary General about the history of Hamdard, its emphasis on unani medicines, contribution in raising the standard of education, exports/imports of products, etc. The discussions mainly centred around organising of some training programmes for the benefit of AARDO member countries.

iv) Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), New Delhi

A delegation from the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), New Delhi headed by Dr. M.J. Khan, Chairman paid a visit to AARDO Secretariat to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Secretary General on 1st July 2016 for carrying out collaborative activities. The other members of the delegations were Mr. Alok Sinha, IAS (Retd.), Director General, Mr. Vijay Sardana, Chairman, ICFA Working Group on Agro Trade and Regulatory Affairs, Dr. K.L Chadha, Chairman, ICFA Working Group on Horticulture, and President, Horticultural Society of India (HIS) and Prof. M. Moni, Chairman, ICFA Working Group on ICT. The signing ceremony was immediately followed by extensive discussions between the two organizations on matters of mutual interest, including implementation of the MoU.

v) International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Rome, Italy

Mr. Ashwani K. Muthoo, Director, Global Engagement, Knowledge and Strategy Division, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Rome, Italy called on the Secretary General on 26 September 2016 and discussed the possibility of collaboration between the two Organizations. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Manoj Nardeosingh, Assistant Secretary General, AARDO and senior officers from the Secretariat.

During the meeting, the Secretary General apprised the Director of the programmes and activities of AARDO for the benefit of its member countries and AARDO's past association with IFAD. The Director appreciated the activities of AARDO, especially the Human Resource Development (HRD) activities, for the benefit of rural poor in its member countries. Both the organizations agreed to explore the possibilities of collaboration in alleviating poverty and achieving the sustainable development goals in AARDO member countires. He also invited the Secretary General and senior officers of AARDO to the launch ceremony of IFAD's Rural Development Report in New Delhi on 17 October 2016.
